Des Moines, IA (July 25, 2024) --- ARAG Legal Insurance is proud to continually support diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, including partnering with Drake University to sponsor the Chad Hensley Diversity Scholarship to a third-year law student. This scholarship honors the founder of Midwest Legal Services, Chad Hensley. Midwest Legal Services was an Iowa-based company that started offering legal insurance in the 1970s – later becoming a subsidiary of ARAG, the leading legal insurer worldwide.
This year, we’re incredibly proud to announce Jessa Marfal as the 2024 recipient of the Chad Hensley Diversity Scholarship. Jessa grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, and chose Drake University for law school so she could stay connected to the community.
She received her associate degree in criminal justice from Des Moines Area Community College and her bachelor’s degree in criminology and criminal Justice with a minor in child, adult and family services from Iowa State University. She is now in her third year of law school at Drake University.
Prior to attending law school, Jessa worked as an assistant in several law firms and as a correctional officer at the Iowa Correctional Institute for Women.
While at Drake University, Jessa has been involved in the Asian Pacific Law Student Association and is a Student Ambassador. She is currently pursuing a public interest certificate and volunteering with the Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice. There, she is working as an ALL Iowa Legal Corp Intern assisting the Afghan refugee community.
